 $4,260.00 Superintendent raise

Anonymous writes "OCSD Superintendent Bill Crist is pushing for a $4,260.00 raise and an increase in his paid sick leave days from 320 days to 350 days. His salary is currently $142,000.00, with a $300.00 per month gasoline allowance.
The issue will be discussed in executive session at the next OCSD board meeting. It is the intent of the board to come to a consensus on this issue in executive session and then vote on the raise in public session.
It is a violation of the Open Meetings Law to come to consensus in executive session.

If you have an opinion on this issue, I'm sure your board members would love to hear it.

Thanks for the info, Fran.  Has the idea of giving additional sick days as a bonus been discussed?  I believe that this is something that is icing, not part of a yearly salary review.  Tell Bill that he can try to earn those sick days this year and we'll see what he does with that.  He obviously didn't earn them last year.  He has done nothing but float along as far as I can tell.

IF I'm wrong and he has brought this school district forward somehow, please share that info with us also.  As a matter of fact, anyone out there have any news of recent positive changes in our district?  I'd love to have some hope to grab on to.

Re: Sick Days.

Bah, humbug. What a crock.

The term "Sick Days" is nothing more than a cute way of saying BONUS. The true meaning of what a sick day means is when a person is ill and can't go to work that day or three, he won't be docked for missing work but will be reimbursed for those days he missed and will still receive a full weeks pay as per usual. Sick means sick.

Then there is another abuse of this kind of bonus. Another cute name for this is  PERSONAL days. Call it whatever you want, these sick days or whatever you call them are a slick way to reward the person with a financial windfall that is over and above the agreement of what the recipient earns. (Earns??? - that's a subject that is open for debate.)

Maybe I'm old fashioned but when a person signs a contract to perform a task for a specified duration of time at a specified rate or amount of money, THAT"S IT. You perform the duties in a satisfactory manner for the duration agreed upon. That is the where-with-all of the purpose of a legal contract.

Now, when the contract has been fulfilled and is about to expire, if rehiring is mutually agreed upon by both signatory parties of the contract, then both parties can begin to renegotiate said contract, very possibly with changes in the original terms of the previous contract. You don't alter the contract mid stream of the signed agreement.

I think that the one thing that galls me the most is when certain individuals acrue and ac*****ulate sick days and the like, and cash them in when it is time to change jobs, retire or get laid off. These ac*****ulated days are treated like chips in a casino. They are redeemed for cold, hard cash.

The term Sick Days has been prostituted to the meaning of bonus bucks, something extra for doing nothing extra. A sweetheart deal, a BONUS. A sick day is a form of insurance. God forbid a person becomes gravely ill. The sick days help him and his family maintain a normal standard of living. If you aren't sick during an agreed upon time period, there is no need for the sick days. Next period, you start anew with thw annual allotment of sick days

Imagine increasing one's paid sick days from 320 days to 350 days. That is much more than over a year's illness, bearing in mind working Monday through Friday, holidays and vacations off, etc. I remember one job I had, if I was out for 5 days in a row I had to produce a letter from my doctor proving that I was really sick. No sick days, just to hold my job.

In this uncertain day and age, what nerve this Bill Christ has. Will someone show him the door.

The arrogant jackass Bill Crist's home phone number is 343-7378. I am sure he would like to receive calls at home from the public so that he can provide justification for this raise to them. The work number that Fran provided is answered by a secretary, and he thinks he is too good to speak with the public, so I would try him at home.
